For purely Inventory “this device exists”, you can look at Unmanaged Assets. Normally Unmanaged Assets would be created using one of the NMAP scanning tasks, but I think it’s also possible to import a CSV spreadsheet or XML to create Unmanaged Assets.
These would be a different device type, not “bes computer”; I think they’re “bes unmanagedasset”. The properties that they get would depend upon what you import, but I think by default you might get a hostname, IP address, MAC address, and maybe an OS type.
These wouldn’t be able to report in using a BES client, receive BES actions, or patch through BigFix. But if you’re doing something like exporting BigFix data to an inventory system, it might be worth looking at Unmanaged Assets.
If you have a BigFix Inventory 9.2.7 you can run an standalone scan.
Stand-alone scanner for monitoring isolated computers:
If some of your Windows or Linux computers cannot be managed from a central location due to security reasons, you can discover software and hardware inventory by using disconnected scans. Scan results are placed in files that can be later on used to import the collected data to the BigFix Inventory or License Metric Tool server.
Benefits: You can collect software and hardware inventory data from computers that cannot have the BigFix client installed.
You will need to download each update individually from the Windows Update Catalog and install them. Thankfully this is much easier with their new servicing model and the monthly update rollups.
