Winsock Err's when posting to new DMZ relay

(imported topic written by slicetech91)

I am getting Windows error -8 when posting to a new DMZ relay. The Winsock article (#273) indicates this is a connection problem, but it appears I have connectivity.

CLIENT LOG:

RegisterOnce: Attempting to register with ‘http://dmzrelay.mydomain.org:52311/cgi-bin/bfenterprise/clientregister.exe?RequestType=RegisterMe60&ClientVersion=8.0.627.0&Body=14050190&SequenceNumber=100&MinRelayVersion=6.0.0.0&CanHandleMVPings=1&Root=http://MAINSERVER.INTERNAL.LOCAL%3A52311&AdapterInfo=00-13-72-c1-cb-08_192.168.1.0%2F24_192.168.1.253_0

At 14:05:47 -0800 -

RegisterOnce: GetURL failed - General transport failure. - winsock error -8

However, if I pop that URL into a web browser:

http://dmzrelay.mydomain.org:52311/cgi-bin/bfenterprise/clientregister.exe?RequestType=RegisterMe60&ClientVersion=8.0.627.0&Body=14050190&SequenceNumber=100&MinRelayVersion=6.0.0.0&CanHandleMVPings=1&Root=http://MAINSERVER.INTERNAL.LOCAL%3A52311&AdapterInfo=00-13-72-c1-cb-08_192.168.1.0%2F24_192.168.1.253_0

I get this in reply:

Also, all clients are taking their jobs; they just aren’t reporting back.

Any ideas?

I’m curious. Are the clients that hit the DMZ behind some type of NAT / Proxy? We’ve seen that exact behavior under those conditions.

Yes. At the remote site they are behind a home class Netopia DSL router using NAT.

Also forgot to mention, I am using manual relay selection on these clients, but ICMP is blocked within our DMZ.

Did you ever get resolution on this? We had this problem for quite some time and I don’t think IBM considers it a bug.
