Winsock error -5

Hey,

We’ve noticed a large number of non-windows clients that have the error listed below. The BESClient version is 5.1.3.8.

At 00:01:23 +0100 - opsite324 (http://bigfix.worldnet.ml.com:52311/cgi-bin/bfgather.exe/opsite324)

FAILED to Synchronize - General transport failure. - winsock error -5

At 00:01:24 +0100 - opsite374 (http://bigfix.worldnet.ml.com:52311/cgi-bin/bfgather.exe/opsite374)

FAILED to Synchronize - General transport failure. - winsock error -5

I was confused as to how non-windows clients would have winsock errors. After looking through the KB article, http://support.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/kbdirect.pl?id=273, this appears to be a permissions issue. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

First thing I’d say is you should upgrade that client. We are about the release 7.1 at which point 5.1 will no longer be a supported version.

After upgrading the client see if the problems still occur.
