Windows XP SP3

(imported topic written by BenUK77791)

Hi,

Are there any recommendation for deploying WinXP SP3 via BigFix?.

We have the 300MB plus update in our Bes Custom share.

We have the following relevance:

(name of operating system = “WinXP”) AND (platform id of operating system = 2) AND (free space of drive of parent folder of system folder /1000 /1000 > 1500)

We are using the following Action script:

download http://BESServer:52311/Uploads/Custom/Windows XP SP3/WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe

wait __Download\WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe /quiet /passive /forcerestart

The above doesn’t appear to work and using the BESmirror request tool the action just appears to keep trying.

Is it best practice to cache the file and extract or is it best to copy the Service pack to each PC and issue a command to install it?.

Any advice appreciated.

Thanks,

Ben.

Hi Ben,

Does that URL work? (it has spaces in it, which might cause a problem)…

You probably want to use the prefetch command so that the BigFix Server doesn’t need to keep downloading the file (because it will cache the file according to the sha1 hash):

For instance (removing spaces from the url):

prefetch WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe sha1:9370b0019a942400cfebfbdf15c107bbecdc8b0a size:300000000 http://BESServer:52311/Uploads/Custom/WindowsXPSP3/WindowsXP-KB936929-SP3-x86-ENU.exe
