Windows XP SP2 keeps failing to download

(imported topic written by gdaniel)

I am attempting to deploy the Windows XP SP2 fixlet using Option 4 - “Click here to initiate the deployment process (Uninstall Enabled, Internet Connection Firewall Disabled)”. As it is deploying to my test box, I watch the downlaod status changing as the file is being cached. It fails after reaching a download of 9.07 MB each time.

I go to the “Download Status Report” page on the Main BES Server, and review the corresponding action number…

Action: 5457 Retry Mirror Request

Error Status: HttpHandlerAdapter bogus receive length (791752241): giving up.

I go to the “Download Status Report” page on the local BES Relay Server, and review the corresponding action number…

Action: 5457 waiting for retry Fri, 29 Dec 2006 08:39:01 -0500

Do I have a cache limit on a Relay Server that I haven’t set properly?

Our environment:

BES Server Version: 6.0.15.07

BES Server Name: PNPAPETSP001

Realy servers:

PNPPRN01: 6.0.15.7

JAFPSENNP001: 6.0.15.7

IPCPSENNP002: 6.0.15.7

WPOPSENNP001: 6.0.15.7

VTYPSENNP001: 6.0.15.7

VTYPSENNP002: 6.0.15.7

PLPAPETSP001: 6.0.15.7

The JAFPSENNP001 server is my RELAY server. It uses the D: drive for the BES Relay folder, is at 16 GB partition, with 13.5 GB free (85%).

I have 832 clients reporting to the JAF Relay.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Gary

Hey Gary,

Hmmm… It looks a lot like the Microsoft download web server is giving corrupted information. Can you try to download it in IE and see if it works?

I tried it here and it seemed to work OK.

If we can’t figure it out, we can always pre-cache it manually, but let me know how it goes.

Thanks, Ben. I was able to download WindowsXP-KB835935-SP2-ENU.exe (272 MB) locally and created a script to copy this down to the desktops c:\temp\ and run the install from there. This seems to defeat the whole purpose of caching and using the BES Relays, but I couldn’t get it to work any other way. I’d appreciate any ideas you may have. My supervisor is asking me to palce a support call…

Hey Gary,

You can manually cache the file on the BES Server, which will then allow you to deploy the service pack normally. You need to rename the file in drop it in one of the server subfolders. You can find information about how to do it here: http://support.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/kbdirect.pl?id=390
