Windows update service for bigfix

i want to know if window update service is manadatory for bigfix windows patching? If yes then update service is also downloading the patches automatically and sometime it install…

The service is required by some Microsoft’s patches, but the downloads will be made by the BigFix client itself.

so do we need to keep it running ? If yes how to stop update service to download patches automatically.

Hi Vijay,

The Windows Update Service (wuauserv) can be Stopped to disallow automatic updates, but not Disabled.

For it to stay Stopped, you may also want to set the startup type to Manual.

There are Tasks in Patching Support site to do these for you.

The Windows updates services(wuauserv) are stated status,
but we set the Windows update “Never update” in control panel mean the patches are automatically updates from cloud?

Ok, but if we stop some patchs do not deploy , so i guess we need to keep it up started and Auto Update mode to disable, and for this we need to create a custom fixlet.

We took a different route for our organization. We spun up a WSUS server and have our clients point to that but we don’t use it to approve any updates at all… This way the Windows Update service stays running which is a relevance check in a lot of the updates but BigFix is the only source then for Windows Updates…
