Windows 2008 R2 - Not quite supported?

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

A few issues here.

  • We tried installing the client via the MSI and it fails. This is after turning off User Account Control. Installing via setup.exe works fine.

  • OS shows “Unknown 6.1.7600”

  • No fixlet content - which I am sure is directly related to the OS Unknown issue above

Is anyone else seeing similar results? Is R2 officially supported?

Which version of the agent are you using?

Same here - using client version 7.2.4.60. The client installed OK and a couple of fixlets have applied, however any fixlet using the ‘name of operating system’ relevance evaluates as ‘unknown’.

Ben - we are using 7.2.4.60.

There are no fixlets. We do have tasks as relevant. Things like DSS, Power Monitoring and Client Manager for AV are all showing no applicability as well - which makes sense since the OS is “unknown”

Hello Everyone,

Windows Server 2008 R2 will be officially supported on the BigFix Client-side with an upcoming release (7.2.5.x) which is expected very soon (I will try to post release notes as well). Fixlet content will be released shortly thereafter.

Note of course that Windows Server 2008 R2 is not officially released by Microsoft just yet (scheduled for Oct. 22nd).

Thanks,

-Aram

Great News! We look forward to support and fixlet content!

To the point the Windows Server 2008 and Windows 7 aren’t offically release:

Enterprises are able to download and deploy both and Microsoft has release security patches. So we’d like to request that since BigFix is aimed at the enterprise, BigFix try to coincide their support with the release of products by Microsoft to the enterprise. Thanks!
