Win2k8 R2 x64 Missing Patches

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

So we are doing the old compare Windows Update with BES and finding some disparity.

The following show up on Win Up and do not show in BES:

KB954430 - Security Update XML Core Services 2 x64

KB890830 - Malicious Software Removal Tool

There are a few more but they are reliability and application compatibility so we understand why those are missing (although we wish BigFix would offer an option for them so there is never a question of why BigFix doesn’t match Windows Update - what’s wrong with the tool, etc).

For the malicious software removal tool, look at your “Tasks”… See here: http://forum.bigfix.com/viewtopic.php?pid=14747#p14747

For KB954430, look at MS08-069…

Ben,

I did check the tasks, it’s not listed as relevant. the same is true of MS08-069, it was not showing as relevant.

So the task finally showed up a few weeks ago. YAY!

We still are not seeing the content for MS08-069 (KB973688) and now we are also showing MS09-054 (KN976325) as needed on Window Update but missing in BigFix. Anyone else seeing this?

Hi John,

MS09-072 superseded MS09-054 so you should look at MS09-072 Fixlets.

MS08-069 was recently revised when Microsoft updated the bulletin and so you should check it again and see if you still have an issue.

Ok, we just must be catching these at the right time. MS09-072 now shows up.

XML Core Services continues to be a problem. As for MS08-069, it indeed has disappeared but now KB973688 (Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 Service Pack 2) has shown up (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973688). And the XML 4.0 Service Pack 3 does not seem to target R2 either (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=7f6c0cb4-7a5e-4790-a7cf-9e139e6819c0). If that service pack were to become relevant, then after application so should KB973685 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/973685).
