I’m part of an organization. I was given the client cfg, mashead, and setup.exe about 9 months ago.
I’d like an update installer just to have on hand. Can I download just the setup.exe file somewhere myself or do I have to get it from the IBM gurus higher up in my organization?

Choose your poison
Just make sure you have all the config files. Masthead for win and actionsite for linux/unix along with the setup during installation.
I have observed that the latest client works with the similar major version of BigFix Server. So, if on 9.2.x for server, your client with 9.2.5 will work perfectly. However, needless to say, test 1st.
One word of caution, if you are an operator, do not upgrade the console to a version beyond the Server. In my case, that completely fails. So if Server is on 9.2.3, do not upgrade console to 9.2.5
I can push out 9.2.5. That worked on nearly all the machines. My installer is back around 9.2.0 or 9.2.2. One machine doesn’t list is as relevant so I want to install it from scratch.
If I’ve got the other two files (config and masthead, correct ones for Win or correct ones for Mac), am I able to just swap out the exe or dmg and it will work? That’s using the same config and masthead files I was using with 9.2.0 or 9.2.2 before. No issues doing that?
If these are the use machines, on that download page, I want the “agent” installers, right?
Is there a way to tell… I can log into the main IBM server for my organization to push things out to my area’s machines… the version… Under the About menu…
Dang… The Endpoint Manager Console version is 9.2.2.21
I asked someone else if there were updates since I installed the client installers in the spring. They said yes. Then I found them in the all fixlets list finally. It said they were relevant for most of my machines, so after testing it, I pushed out 9.2.5 to as many of the user machines as I could. Hm… Will that be a huge issue?
I’ve got permission to log into the server that runs IBM Bigfix for my organization. I can log into the IBM Endpoint Mnager Console there. And then I can install the client-side software.
On that server, under the Programs and Features list… It looks like the four pieces of IBM software are 9.2 for three, 9.1 for one… I wouldn’t be doing anything with the server or Console though. I only work with my user machines, just logging into the server and then console to do that.
It looks like they haven’t upgraded anything on the server or console side since 9.2…
So in general, your client versions can be very different from your Root / Relay versions. It is not ideal, but it should work.
An 8.0 client will work with a 9.2 root/relay it just won’t have access to many of the newer optimizations and features.
In general it is best to keep them all equal, EXCEPT in the case of Mac/OS X clients, they should ALWAYS be on the latest version in most cases due to compatibility issues. Same goes for any Windows 10 clients.
It should be the case that a 9.2 client will work on an infrastructure that is otherwise 8.2 root/relay. Again, not ideal, but it should work.
