Recently, I deployed operating systems through WDS+MDT and Bigfix OSD, respectively.
The principle is similar except that one is deployed with WDS and the other with bare metal server, although the WDS+MDT operation and process is much easier to understand.
Based on the above questions, I would like to know what are the advantages of BigFix OSD compared to BigFix OSD or what are the advantages that WDS does not have.
Thanks.
I think the.main advantages to OSD are
- cross-platform deployment (OSD handles several Linux distributions as well as Windows)
- Rapid provisioning of multiple OSD servers. The images and configuration are stored in BigFix, so it’s much easier to stand up additional OSD servers in hard-to-reach networks
- Centralized management of multiple OSD servers
- Multicast deployment options
The main disadvantages I see for OSD is that it can be difficult to understand, some of the mechanics of how it works are not well-documented publicly.
I would add drivers management: a strong point of OSD.
