Virtual Machines duplicating after snapshot

(imported topic written by Syro91)

Hello,

I’ve been running BigFix v8 for abuot 3 months now, and I am running into an issue I would concider a nuisance. I do a lot of my package deployment and functionality testing on a set of virtual machines. Once a test is completed, i revert to a snapshot. This snapshot is a production-ready machine with the bigfix agent installed, joined to the domain, all of our core policies active, etc.

The issue i’m running into is that on the first check-in after the snapshot, the system is duplicated in BigFix, most of the time. On a few occaisons, it is not. I have found no reason for the duplication. I’m not changing the specs of the virtual machine, it’s GUID in active directory is not changing, and I assumed that the BigFix computer ID would not change simply from reverting to snap shot. Is there something else going on that would be causing this?

Host system is Win 7 enterprise 64bit. The vm i’m using is the Windows XP mode vm (XP SP3)

Hi,

See the record duplication section of this KB article – http://support.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/kbdirect.pl?id=1625

Because the sequence number goes back, the agent re-registers and gets a new GUID.

By the way, the same thing happens to Active Directory, which you’ll notice if your guests are domain members. You’ll need to remove and rejoin them.

That’s odd, because the only time i’ve had to rejoin to the domain is when i’ve not had the virtual up and running for more than a week. Anyway, thanks for confirming that there wasn’t something wrong!
