V8 Console Load over WAN

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

Hello,

Has anyone experienced any long initial loads of the v8 console across a WAN? We have a site with 3Ts and the console is still loading after an hour. Have seen this on several occasions now. Sometimes the load takes up the entire link and we have to stop it. Had not had this load time with v7.

What is the bandwidth and latency of the link? Are you sure you’re loading the same data set as you were with the v7 console?

It’s 3 T-1s and same data set as always. It appears now that our WAN accelerator was not properly shaping the traffice for SQL. However, it is still curious that the initial load of the console would take over an hour to load across 3 Ts. It does appear once the load is first done - subsequent loads of the console are quicker. Unless others are experiencing similiar issues then we’ll just assume it was because our accelerator was not properly shaping the traffice. Thanks so much for the help.

This is something we’ve heard about before, especially with links with high-latency (regardless of how good the bandwidth is). It makes sense that subsequent console loads are much faster than the initial load – the console caches a lot of data on the local filesystem.
