Using Redhat repositories

I’m unsure how to work with custom repositories. What I did so far is:

  • activating RHEL Patch site for RHEL7 and 8
  • activated Repository configuraton analyse
  • added satellite server and a custom repository
  • activated “use custome repos” for one client to test

I’ve a lot of RedHat fixlets available fo the client, but not the one which should be in the custom repository?

Or is my expectation wrong and custom repos are only usefull to avoid downloading patches from Redhat and use Satellite instead?

@MatthiasW, have you had an opportunity to review the following videos from the BigFix Tech Advisor YouTube channel?

  1. BigFix Foundation Series - Intro to Linux Patching
  2. BigFix Foundation Series - Configuring Linux Patching
  3. BigFix Foundation Series - Linux Patch Demo

Given your use case of managing specific versions of software, you will need to manage custom repositories within your BigFix environment for your RHEL endpoints.

@cmcannady, thanks for the links and tips. Yes, I’ve activated custom repos as described. As far as I understood, one difference compared to RHEL external site is that YUM is being used instead of BES Relay structure.

Unfortunately I have no idea how to work with the custom repositories, eg. having a custom site based on a repo, create webreports or SCA Patch reports against a repo etc?

Or is my expectation completly wrong?
