User unable to access Web Reports

(imported topic written by PKLumos)

We are controlling access to the web reports via AD group membership. I have a user who has the correct membership, yet when he tries to log into the web reports, it simply blanks his credentials and stays on the logon screen. I can login with my account from his machine just fine. he has inherited the “normal” role, and I have also tried explicitly assigning that role to him with no resolution? Thoughts?

Are they using any “special characters” in their password?

Very well could be. I’ll ask.

Having the same issue here . We’re using 9.0.787 version. Out of 100 or so users maybe 3 of them have the same issue as you are seeing. Have a PMR open 50713,49R,000 in case you end up opening a support case, you can have the tech refer to this one as well. We require special characters in passwords so 100% of our users have special characters. My first thought was the user was using a really really special character : ) that no one uses like some greek character or something. I asked the user and he said no. We linked another user account user had and it works and he said he’s using the same password that he uses for the account that doesn’t work So if that’s true that rules out the issue being with something in the password.

One thing I noticed though is in the Web Reports SQL database there’s a column in the user accounts table that is related to the user’s password GUID or something and it’s all strange characters. The users that have the issue, the length of this GUID is very short while the others are pretty long. That’s the only similarities I could find.

What’s weird is no errors. If he types the password wrong on purpose he gets standard password error.

Looks like they may have fixed with the just released 9.0.835.0 version of Bigfix. I noticed in the release notes (
http://support.bigfix.com/bes/changes/fullchangelist-90.txt
) the following fix:

Fixed an issue preventing some LDAP users (those with null bytes in their GUIDs) from logging into Web Reports (issue #57751, APAR: IV53335)

As soon as I test (we just updated to 9.0.835.0) I will post if it fixed my issue. This bug hit about 2-3% of all our web report users so it will be easy to test if it fixed for us.

I’m seeing this issue as well with two users who have not been able to login with AD accounts while many others can. We just upgraded our system to 9.0.835 and now I’m seeing something odd. In Web Reports user management, I’m seeing the two AD user accounts don’t have roles assigned to them. When I try to assign a role that would allow them web reports access, the roles do not get assigned. I can assign roles to other accounts, but for some reason these two accounts won’t accept any roles. There is nothing I can identify that is different about these two accounts. I’m not sure how to check if there are null bytes in their GUIDs as mentioned in the change notes for 9.0.835. Any ideas?
