USB as Relay

(imported topic written by rwtrotter91)

Does anyone know of a way to define a USB drive as a relay? I work for a medical technology company that creates devices that will always be offline. We’d like to be able to purchase licenses for these products and use them to update these devices. Because these devices will never be online it’s critical to be able to place the fixlets and/or baselines on USB drives and have the BigFix client recognize the device as a content provider.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks,

Hey Robert,

There really isn’t a way to provide a folder (or drive) as a relay… You could potentially swap out the Fixlet site and actionsite folders with a real agent and precache the data on the agent manually… but it is non-trivial to get this working right without causing the agent to think something is wrong…

Thanks for the info. Do you think this is something they would consider as a product enhancement if I put in the request?

Sure… we always like feedback…

The big issue with this approach is that it is a lot of work for us to maintain and QA, which means that we are reluctant to build it (and instead want to concentrate on features that are higher impact for less cost)… But maybe we can figure out something for BigFix Labs so we can build something that works for a lower cost…
