Upgrade 9.5 to latest Patch - Unable to install BES Console

Hello there, :slight_smile:

I upgraded our BigFix Server. Now i am unable to connect, cause i have to upgrade too the bes console. But there is the problem.

Error 2343. Specified path is empty cames when i open the bigfixconsole.msi and crashes:

Hello - Is somebody out there who can send me the files of the bes console? Or how should i fix this issue? Need urgently help… :frowning:

The IBM BigFix-Serverdiagnosis says all tests are ok (green).

Server error: Database connection error: Database Error: The database being connected to has a database version of ‘Enterprise 9.70’ and this applicaton requires a database version of Enterprise 8.22.

Hi Fabius,

DB version 8.22 = 9.5 Patch 1 as seen at the bottom of the following page:
http://support.bigfix.com/bes/release/9.5/patch1/

Correspondingly, DB version 9.70 = 9.5 Patch 9:
http://support.bigfix.com/bes/release/9.5/patch9/

The installers should have been generated on your root server when you ran the following task:

  • Updated Windows Installation Folders - IBM BigFix version 9.5.9 Now Available! (ID: 3309)

You can determine where this folder is located on the root server by running the following query on the root server:

value "InstallFolder" of key "HKLM\Software\BigFix\BES Installation Generator" of registry

Alternatively, you can manually download the console installer from the 9.5.9 page linked above or through this direct link:
http://software.bigfix.com/download/bes/95/BigFix-BES-Console-9.5.9.62.exe

Hi Wilson,

I tried to install the BES Console. No luck because i get the error message The specified path is not empty when i start the bes console setup. This problem is new…

Any ideas how to fix that? I spent more than 1,5houres. No luck…

For all of you who where getting into this i found the solution: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21596184

But here your have to make the following (if it’s about BESConsole.exe)

For example create the following into the RegKey (i installed the Console on D:\ in this example):

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\BESConsole.exe

then adjust this:

Default: D:\BigFix Enterprise\BES Console\BESConsole.exe
Path: D:\BigFix Enterprise\BES Console\

Then you will able to install it!

Problem is solved by myself now. :wink:

Hope this helps somebody else. Check if BESAdmin.exe / BESClient.exe / BESClientDeploey (depends on your setup) is there.
