It was not included in the SLM/SCVM Combo Pack. I had to submit a ticket and a separate “Lifecycle Managment” section was added to my license dashboard for me to add it. A firewall rule to open TCP 888 is added to the client target as part of the deployment.

This tool is looking pretty handy so far, however we noticed that on Win7 (32 bit tested so far) machines the command to “Inject Ctrl + Alt + Del” to a machine to allow login does not appear to be working properly. XP seems fine but Win7 does not seem to do anything.

I don’t like the fact that you are asked for a username/password and have to be a member of the local admin group to initiate a session. Our computers are all across the board as far as being in our central AD, rogue AD forests, workgroups and more. We don’t have control over putting ourselves in every local admin group on every computer. I don’t need or want the ability to have access to all computers within our deployment.
-So what I would like:
Is there a way to just initiate a help offer - the users accepts - then start the session from there. Then at any time the user and or controller can cut off connection.
We currently use webex for our helpdesk to assist end users on their local machines. Can TRC work in the WebEx type model and skipping the logon to a web page step?
Example:
User Calls Help Desk
Help Desk determines a screen sharing session is needed to help troubleshoot
Help Desk has TRC controller/BES Console and initiates a Session to help
User is prompted to accept a help request
Connection established and screen sharing and help begins.

I haven’t tried the TRC, but I’m anxious to hear if it can do what Stacy would like, or will be able to in the future. I think that most users feel more comfortable when they have (perceived) control over when you can or can’t see their screen.
Like Stacy, I would be concerned with giving everyone that may initiate a support session administrator rights to the system. That won’t work in our environment either.

We had the same issue. Seems a local policy for Win 7 prevents the CTRL-ALT-DEL. See the following technote.

Hi,
on-demand capabilities are definitely things we’re thinking about. In the meantime, the full TRC Server product will give you more flexibility on AAA (authentication, access, and audit). I do want to point out that the user can block connection attempts or hide specific windows before allowing connection in the current version.
thanks,
Jack

I’ve tested the remote controller out and could suggest a few things. I’ll probably be building them for myself… eventually.
Add an option to the right click menu of the console which launches the remote control session.
that way when a user calls in, we find their system in the console. we already have folder browsing, and such, a “launch TRC” option would be a nice added option. This will also allow the console to keep tabs on connectivity. via the peer2peer features.

After Ctrl alt delete I found another problem. If I need to write password I cant write a? Anyone has same problem? Solution is caps lock on and shift + a that works. Is there any fix?

Hi Daniel,
If you use the Fixlet in the TRC site to deploy the TRC Controller, it will add a right-click option to the Console like you said.

Hi, I have been asked to confirm the following without a doubt for customer today. I have read the TRC manual and the answer appears to be yes.
The question is: can you configure TEM/TRC to establish a remote control session without the remote side knowing or needing to accept the session? And is there any evidence to the user (such as an icon in the system tray) that the session is running?
(imported comment written by JackCoates91)
Hi,
This is actually possible… I had thought otherwise and may be the source of your inaccurate answer from yesterday. I’ve just tested that disabling confirmations and GUI will work. That said, I suspect that you may face legal issues in doing so, depending on the end user privacy regulations that exist in some environments.
(imported comment written by lmchavez91)
Thank you very much for your response. I agree on the privacy concerns. This is a question from the account passed on to me, so not sure if they plan to actually do this, or just want to know if it can be done as a precaution to be aware of when using the tool.

the other thing I would add is that the person doing the remote control needs to provide credentials to access a machine. If the account does not have access to manage machines (standard user level access) they will not be able to remote control.

Are there plans to make this software available for MAC machines? I see support for Windows and Linux but no MAC’s.
I went to the website for the standalone TRC client and the Detailed System Requirements and got a “Document not found” error

I’m new to TRC but it appears that Mac OS X is not a supported platform:

I have a problem with things not showing up on our Licensing Overview dashboard, though we are licensed for it. You would think if your licensed for it, it would show up as an option to enable it. What gives?
(imported comment written by JackCoates91)
Hi,
If the “Check for license update” button doesn’t do it for you, you probably need to ping licensing to make sure it’s set up correctly.

Here’s some advice, hide tray icons through group policy to prevent user calls : )
This was the quickest fix I could find for hiding the TRC Tray icon, which is always displayed at the bottom right in a pink color and turns red on active sessions. I will see if there is a eaiser way to only show the tray icon on active sessions, our users freak out about anything.

We have Bigfix Remote Desktop for Windows from our previous 7.2 install. We have upgraded to 8.1 version and also got our licenses updated by the Licensing team. Does Bigfix Remote Desktop for Windows get upgraded to Tivoli Remote Control ?
