We have a situation where we have an action policy advising a reboot is required has shown to randomly reboot some devices without user intervention.
What happens is a warning appears on the console and requires the user to accept and initial action. However lately, it has been observed that a small number of devices (mainly servers unfortunately) have been randomly rebooting. On inspecting the event log, the system event comments that “Tivoli Endpoint Manager Restart from ActionID xxxx” - Clearly indicating that TEM is responsible. Apparently that policy was actioned 3 weeks ago and no one apparently accepted the message to reboot, but the device now suddenly decides to reboot without intervention. Any ideas? clues?
The action behavior is as follows:
Messages
No user interface will be shown before running this action.
No message will be shown while running this action.
Users
This action will run independently of user presence.
User interface will be shown to all users.
Execution
This action will never expire.
It will run at any time of day, on any day of the week.
If the action becomes relevant after it has successfully executed, the action will be reapplied as a policy an unlimited number of times.
If the action fails, it will be retried up to 20 times, waiting until the computer is rebooted between attempts.
The action’s start times will be staggered over 2 minutes to reduce network load.
Post-Action
After the action completes, the user will be requested to restart the computer.
The restart request will have a deadline of 1 day after it is initially shown.
When the deadline is reached, the user will be forced to respond to the restart request.
The following message will be displayed as the reboot/shutdown request:
Restart Now
Your system administrator is requesting that you restart your computer. Please save any unsaved work and then take this action to restart your computer.
