I’ve seen other threads but nothing that seems to be a totally definitive answer. I’m currently running Tivoli server 8.2.1079 and all my agents/clients are 8.2.1079 as well. I’ve recently introduced some Server 2012 computers and they are not supported by the .1079 client. I had to install the .1310 client in order for the server to populate properly.
My question is. What is the official stance on how versioning is supported in the client/server model?
Must the server ALWAYS have a >= version than the clients?
Can the clients have a higher version, as long as it’s in the same major/minor? i.e. 8.2.X
Can the clients have a higher version, as long as it’s in the same major? i.e. 8.X
Is there a compatibility matrix listed somewhere that shows what server/client versions are guaranteed to work together?
Our general policy is we support agents reporting to servers with the same major and minor version and we support the agent being up to two major versions behind the server version.
Must the server ALWAYS have a >= version than the clients?
A: No, as long as the major/minor version matches
Can the clients have a higher version, as long as it’s in the same major/minor? i.e. 8.2.X
A: Yes
Can the clients have a higher version, as long as it’s in the same major? i.e. 8.X
A: We do our best to ensure compatibility, but do not guarantee support
Sorry about the formatting issues. Here’s my response in a more readable format:
