Time to re-do your Windows 7 and Server 2008r2 Patching Baselines!

Hello!

I have some great news!

Microsoft has released a Convenience Roll-up for Windows 7 and Server 2008r2. Some initial testing shows that this single update takes a Windows 7 SP1 machine from needing 317 (45 Critical, 108 Important, 4 Moderate, 1 Low, 159 Non-Security) Windows Patches to needing only 76 (46 Non-Security, 23 Important, 7 Critical).

This update requires KB3020369 to be installed prior to installing the Convenience Roll-up.

Next, Installing .Net 4.6.1 (310243601 in Patches for Windows) and Internet Explorer 11 (284113407 and 284113403 in Patches for Windows) brings us down to 30 non-security and just 28 Security patches required for a fully patched Windows 7!

Do take note of the warnings in the MS KB article. In particular there is a known issue if your client is using the VMWare VMXNET3 virtual adapter, that this Rollup Package may delete your virtual machine’s network configuration and reset it to defaults.
