We’ve had a problem lately with a Lenovo Thinkpad T60 running Windows XP that is not reporting its updates correctly to the BigFix console. Its software is up to date, but BigFix lists it as needing updates that date back 2 years. I have personally checked the relevant software, and everything seems fine. I would love any ideas as to why this is. Thanks for your time.
What program is reporting that the software is up to date? Have you rebooted or restored some files from backup since patching? BigFix checks the files repaired by the patch instead of just a ‘patch installed’ registry key, so sometimes you’ll see differences. The logic behind every BigFix relevance decision is directly accessible, just click the Fixlet’s “Details” tab. We’re only human, but we’re pretty confident that the detection logic is correct because our customers can detect when we make mistakes and tell us about them.
The main patches of concern are, in this case, Firefox and Flash. I have seen that the computer has updated to Firefox 3.6.12, and has been since rebooted. The summary of the computer, however, lists Firefox as being at 3.5.8, and lists the relevant fixlet messages as though Firefox is still at 3.5.8. I’m not sure if this answers your question; let me know if I’m leaving important things out. Thank you for your help thus far!
