The expiration of the evaluation

(imported topic written by SystemAdmin)

I know the evaluation edition of BES can use only 60 days(including 30 days of grace mode).

What will happen after these 60 days?

1.The BES Client will not evaluate the relevance and will not execute any action?

2.Will the BES Server still gather fixlets?

3.If the BES Server gathers fixlets all the same, will it fill the content of fixlets into the database?

An additional question:

I know BES identify a fixlet with FixletSite and fixlet ID, so I want to know:

4.Two same fixlets in evaluation and production version of BES, is their fixlet id different or not?

5.Is the id of the fixlet fixed? or it maybe changed sometime?

I’m sorry for my poor english and expecting for your answers. Thanks!

Hi nadoo,

If the BES Clients are in restricted mode (which can occur on evaluation or production licenses if the seat count or the expiration date are overrun) the BES Clients will do the following:

  • Refuse to report true to any Fixlets.
  • Not respond to actions.

You database will continue to update the Fixlets in the database (which are the same for production and eval), but the agents won’t report them as true.

May I ask why you are so curious?

Hi Ben,

Now we have a project to collect data from several BES Server databases to a central database, all the BES Server which we want to collect data from it has a production license.

The central database runs on a stand alone server. In order to reduce the communication from the BES Server to the central database server, we want to install a evaluation BES Server on the center database server, so we can transfer data like:

FixletSite FixletID RelevantCount

Enterprise Security 1 530

Enterprise Security 2 425

When these data transfered to the central server, we can find in the bes server database what the fixlet is, and we can also find out it’s properties like “Source Severity”.

So I must confirm some problems like I asked above, thank you very much for your reply.
