Symantec Uninstall Now Available in BigFix AntiVirus site

We now have uninstall tasks for Symantec AV 9 and 10 in the BigFix AV site. These are tasks 69 and 72 in the site.

To date, we have uninstalls for the following AV products (for Win2000/XP/2003):

  • McAfee (most versions)
  • Sophos (most versions)
  • Symantec AV 9, 10
  • BigFix AntiVirus

Looks like they are still there just as I mentioned… Are you subscribed to the BigFix AntiVirus site?

If you go to “Tools” > “Manage Sites” in the BigFix Console, you should see “BigFix AntiVirus”.

Note also that these same Fixlets to remove all AV Agents is in the Trend CPM Fixlet sites (which are almost released).

We do not have the BigFix AntiVirus, the closes most relevant site I have is “Client Manager for Anti-Virus”. Is there something different I should do to get this?

Hey mjohns2,

The AntiVirus uninstall Fixlets are only part of the BigFix AntiVirus site and the new Trend Core Protection Manager Fixlet site. The idea is that if you are going to get AntiVirus provided by BigFix, you will want to uninstall McAfee, Symantec, Sophos, or whatever other AV software you have.

For the “Client Manager for AntiVirus” Fixlet site, its job is to help you maintain healthy AV agents from McAfee, Trend, Symantec, Sophos, CA and so it allows you to update definitions, start services, deploy the AV agent, etc… but it doesn’t offer you the uninstall Fixlets.

What are you trying to accomplish and with which AV vendors are you working with?

Darn. I am currently authoring custom fixlets for the removal of Symantec, and it sounds like this content would be really useful. We, too, only have “Client Manager for Anti-Virus”. Any chance this could be made available outside of the BigFix AntiVirus site?

Is the Trend AV site something that we need to purchase?

Hey Mike,

Yes. Trend Micro Core Protection Module (which includes AntiVirus, AntiMalware, AntiRootkit) would replace your McAfee or Symantec AntiVirus and it is an add-on to your current BigFix license.
