SUA catalogue incomplete and does not notify when it upgrades

(imported topic written by valeriab)

Hi,

I’m an IBMmer and at a customer’s place (which is a bank) we are facing the problem that the SUA catalog is missing of a considerable number of software, especially the most used banking programs, and the version of other software is not updated (for example, Adobe Reader 10 is not present).

In addition, when a new catalog is deployed, there is no notification in the TEM console (very weird, when it should be TEM typical behavior).

I know it is possible to add/update the software in the catalog manually, but my questions are:

  • is it possible to enrich the catalog content and to update it more often?
  • is it possible to be notified via TEM console when a new catalog is available?

Thanks so much

Valeria

Hi Valeria,

  • We update the catalog every month. This includes new products, new versions, new publishers etc. The catalog will be current on many of the most common, commercially-available, licenseable software products, but not all. This is why we provide some reasonable tools and, like all products in this category on the market, set the expectation that you’ll need to do some periodic tuning. We also offer a Catalog Update Request utility (it’s in BigFix Labs) for customers to provide sanitized raw data from their systems that we can parse through for additions to the next catalog release.

  • Regarding Acrobat Reader 10 – this was initially included in Catalog 8, released in November 2010, so you might need to get a catalog update. They are aggregate, so you just need the most recent update.

  • Regarding missing banking software, we probably don’t have visibility into these because they’re proprietary or so industry-specific that we don’t track them. If you like, you can use the Catalog Update Request utility in the BigFix Labs site to collect and submit sanitized raw data from you systems. We’ll parse through for those specialized banking programs and add them as appropriate.

  • Regarding your request for notification: today we post the update news here on the forum and we send an email to the BESAdmin announcements list (http://bigmail.bigfix.com/mailman/listinfo/besadmin-announcements). We have considered adding a notification to the console as well as to the TEM SUA catalog UI itself. This is still on our backlog of things to do and my hope is that we’ll take care of this sometime in the future.

Hope that helps.
