I have found a machine that has made it all these years without the sql slammer worm patch, MS02-039. I noticed this patch is NOT in BigFix. MS02-043 supersedes it, but it’s not in BigFix either. MS02-061 supersedes it, and this patch IS in BigFix, but my server is not applicable to that patch. I read in another post that “MS02-061 is superseded by No longer available”.
What does this mean? I need to make sure this server is protected.
The patch for MS02-061 has been superseded because Microsoft removed the patch from their servers. This means that the Fixlet message only exists in the BES site for historical purposes, as the action cannot be run successfully. Earlier Fixlet messages may have been removed in accordance with BigFix’s
superseded Fixlet policy
, as they also have been superseded and cannot deploy patches.
If you have no Fixlet messages relevant for your server, it should be up to date with regard to patches. SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 3 contained the MS02-061 patch, which was then superseded by SQL Server 2000 Service Pack 4.
