We currently have over 250 users enrolled with iOS 6, but about 5 devices have reported as being jailbroken. A customer explained to me that he restored an iPod Touch 4th Gen (previously running iOS 4.3.5) to iOS 6. Upon trying to enroll in MDM, the IBM Mobile Client app reported the device as jailbroken. He restored another device to iOS 6 and received the same problem. Note that in both instances, he “Set up as new iPod” and didn’t restore from any previous backups.
Another user that was already enrolled with an iPhone 3GS on iOS 5.1 updated her device to iOS 6. Her device was flagged and MDM was removed from her device (automatic jailbreak action I have open). She tried opening the app and kept receiving the jailbreak warning, but then she killed the IBM app in the multitasking bar, opened it again and was able to enroll without problems.
I feel I may have to turn off my automatic jailbreak action until this is figured out…
We saw this a couple times… Our experiences are similar to what you said, a small fraction of devices after iOS6 upgrade temporarily report jailbroken… We are a still a bit confused why this happens… Our jailbreak detection will look at a bunch of aspects of the system to figure out if it seems like it was jailbroken. I am not sure what about the iOS6 upgrade triggers one of this checks, but it only seems to be temporary, like you said…
We will keep looking into it and see if we can update our app to deal with it… Sorry for the inconvenience…
Any updates on what’s triggering the jailbreak flag? Over the past week, another 6 devices reported in as being jailbroken, so I’ve had to turn off our jailbreak actions until this is resolved.
We identified the problem. The issue was due to some undocumented network stack changes in iOS6 that our jailbreak detection was not expecting. Our latest IBM Mobile Client app published to the AppStore a few weeks ago addressed the issue.
