When patching Solaris equipment, does anyone require that the machine gets brought completely down, and then booted into single user mode? Or, are you just bringing the machine down to single user mode from multi user mode?
The reason for bringing it completely down is to make sure that no multi-user processes are left running when patches are being attempted.
If you are bringing the system completely down before going to single user mode, how do you accomplish this, and get the machine to communicate with IEM when the machine is in single user mode?
If a system is brought down from multi-user mode to single user mode, it is possible that some unwanted processes may still be running on the system, when patching would commence.
If the system is brought down to init 0 and then booted back to single user mode, networking and the BES client will not be running.
I’m looking for a way to have the system running in a state where I do not have to worry about ANY unwanted multi-user processes running when the patches begin to install, and I was wondering if anyone else has these concerns, and have also found a way to have the BESagent running (and networking available) while patches are being installed.
