Software Distribution - No recognized installation file Type found

Hi, I can see that a number of files in the Software Distribution site sync.bigfix.com/cgi-bin/bfgather/softwaredistribution (version 111) have been updated today Wed,23 Mar 2022 13:44

The spb file is being selected from managed files in the package to create a distribution task.

After this update we are unable to create distribution tasks on spb files with the following error:

“No recognized installation file type was found in the package root. Please specify a custom installation command.”

This was working find on Friday, can you please investigate what has been changed that is impacting spb files.

Dev has been notified about your post. Could you also open a support case so we can track this? https://support.hcltechsw.com/csm?id=kb_article&sysparm_article=KB0010164

Hi Chris,

An update to the recent Software Distribution release announcement just came out and it turns out that support for SPB file types has been removed as of site version 111.

Thanks for the update. Is there a way to roll back a site version? Rgds Chris

Unfortunately there isn’t a way to rollback a site once your server updates unless perhaps you have a full server backup available (not just a DBbackup) and then you run an air-gapped deployment to prevent the server from gathering the updates automatically.

@clarkc How are you still using SPB? I thought they were obsolete since Tivoli Configuration Manager went end of life in 2015.
