Socket hang up when setting up source connection

What causes this error? Insights is setup and now we are trying to setup the source:

Can you see any errors in the logs on the SQL Server at this same time? Socket hang up comes from the server and may be caused by access violations or other severe errors in SQL Server. (not a SQL Server expert, but I did see a ton of similar issues involving node.js in results from searching the web).

We think this was due to a cipher suite mismatch between the Insights/BigFix server (Windows Server 2016) and the SQL server (Windows Server 2012R2). Working with HCL support now to see what their guidelines are on differing OS versions.

That would explain the dropped connections.
