Server Sync Failing - Bad Driver?

Hi all,

I’m having trouble figuring out why I’m unable to complete a server sync and I’m wondering if an incompatible driver got uploaded. I would think imaging would still work regardless of a failing sync, Service desk sees the below message when imaging a new desktop model

I looked through posts that are similar to mine with the same error, so I guess I need help determining what logs to send support. The logs I found do show errors but i don’t know what they mean.

Thanks for the help.

The first thing is probably to scroll that console window up just a few lines. The timeout messages indicate this client is not able to reach the Bare Metal Server in the WinPE mode; scrolling up a few lines should show whether your client received an IP address on any of its network cards.

A common issue is the WinPE missing a driver required for your network card. That can be fixed by importing the driver in the OSD Driver Library dashboard (and, potentially, manually binding the driver to your WinPE image and then running a Sync)

From that ActionScript’s ‘failed’ message, it looks like you should check ManifestImport.log for errors. By default this would be at C:\Program Files\BigFix OSD. If you post the last few errors here we can try to help, or else you may need to open a support ticket so the team can look through the logs.

I had a similar case, It was resolved with the HCL Customer Support.

It was a faulty imported driver on the OSD database - they can help identify which driver cause the error and remove it specifically.

You can also just delete all of the Drivers and re-import them again:
Make sure you already got all of the Drivers (WinPE,DriverPacks)
Go the “Driver Library” and remove all of the drivers - then it will create “Update Driver Manifests on Bare Metal Servers” action that should complete successfully.
And now you can import and bind the drivers again

Hi. I suggest to run a “Full Sync” on the bare metal server to see if this fixes the synchronization error. After a successful synchronization, if your new computer is not able to connect to the bare metal server yet, possibly a driver is missing. You can check the binding grid of this new computer model against the WinPE 10 x64 image.
Thanks.

Hey Jason,

Here is a portion of the Manifestimport.log file showing the error::

Thank you :sunglasses:

It says: “Import completed with errors” but the error is not in this section of the logs

Would those then be in the rbagent.log rather than the Manifestimport.log?

Try checking C:\Program Files\BigFix OSD\rbagent.log for errors as well

Sorry here is the manifest import log:

Hello.
The Manifestimport.log seems to miss some lines and info.
Did you check if the Full Sync fixes the issue?
Thanks.

Hi there,

Full sync from the server did not fix it. What did fix the sync was removing all drivers from driver library. Bare metal health checks have passed and healthy again. Next step is re-uploading drivers, so I think we’re good. I’ll know in a bit when drivers are done importing.

Thank you

@jschworm did your issue has been resolved?

Hello, sorry for the late reply. No it’s not. I’ve opened a case with HCL Engineering.

@jschworm please share the results when it’s possible?

Hi all,

I wanted to update everyone on what caused the sync problems. See response from HCL Support below:

“Looking at provided logs (in particular vm.trc), one of the drivers has a description (that is the driver name that is reported in the driver library) and comment (not displayed on the dashboard) that exceeds the max number of expected characters, so the insert into the database table fails, generating the sync error.”

Engineering has built a new rembo.exe that allows to handle such number of characters as description and comment, and I will be sending it to you after you have confirmed and I get the fix that you prefer from Engineering.

Thanks for posting back on this!

I’m working on a totally different thing right now that is also encountering the string length limit on a property result…it can be painful to work around for sure.

Thanks for taking the time to help. I appreciate it! :sunglasses:

Hello. The test fix mentioned has been provided after conducting an analysis on the specific issue. Even if the issue could seem the same, this does mean that it’s the same one and the same solution works.
Furthermore, specific instructions have been provided together with the test fix that, if not followed, applying the fix could break the environment.
The support is ready to support the customer that received the test fix for any issue or unexpected result.
I suggest not to share the specific fix for a similar issue but to open a different ticket for a different environment, to have the issue specifically analyzed.
Thanks.
