SCA 1.5.78 Upgrade: Installer UI Mode Error

When trying to upgrade Tivoli Endpoint Manager Analytics 1.4.26 to SCA 1.5.78 I get the following error:
Installer User Interface Mode Not Supported:
The installer cannot run in this UI mode. To specify the interface mode, use the -i command-line option, followed by the UI mode identifier. The valid modes identifiers are GUI, Console and Silent.

I cannot find any documentation about this error or a way to resolve it.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Is the SCA server Windows 2012 R2? Then, this is a known issue for SCA 1.5 installer, specific to Windows 2012 R2.

The installer for SCA 1.6 or later does not have this issue.

The workaround to install / upgrade SCA 1.5 on Windows 2012 R2 is

  1. Extract the installer files
  2. From Windows Explorer, navigate to the subfolder: server\parts\CDROM_Installers\Disk1\InstData\Win32\VM.
  3. Right-click tema.exe and select ‘Troubleshoot compatibility’. This will open Windows Program Compatibility Troubleshooter.
  4. Select ‘Try recommended settings’
  5. Click ‘Test the program…’. This will launch the SCA 1.5 installer
  6. Continue and complete SCA 1.5 install / upgrade
    (Note: the first install step shows an unsupported operating system warning, but you can click Next to proceed)

Thank you! That solved my issue.

I had an other issue when trying to upgrade the database schema.
I got the error “The user is not the owner of the specified database”.
It turned out that the case and formatting of the user that ran the service did not match the db owner of the database
