Microsoft Office 2016 for Mac OS X is out. It’s available through Office 365 subscriptions, and for VL customers, and is getting Patch Tuesday updates.
Hopefully we’ll soon see this added to Mac Applications patching as well?

Hopefully. I would definitely file an RFE on this and link it here.

As of Sept 16 2015, another month and another security update.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3088502
As of Oct 13 2015, MS15-110 corrects security issues and updates to 15.15.0.
Any word from IBM on these?
I’ve got support groups asking about them.
As of November 10, 2015, MS15-116 corrects security issues and updates to 15.16.0.
Creating Office 2016 update tasks with AutoPkg has been fairly easy. The other benefit is that Office 2016 “updates” are actually full installers for the individual applications.
I’m also waiting for the Office 2016 for Mac content from IBM. And I’d agree with @hansen_m that creating the content with AutoPKG is nice.
In the meantime, I created content for the latest 15.16.0 update for all of the Office 2016 applications: Excel, OneNote, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Word. I’ve tested them all in my environment that runs Office 2016 installs from Office 365 and the volume licensed version, but obviously test in your environment too before using in prod. Please let me know if you notice any issues. They’re all in bigfix.me now:
Excel 2016 15.16.0:

Thanks @alexk, that’s right nice.
My thinking is, security patches for a new major release of an already-supported application is exactly what I’ve hired IBM to do for me.
Wanting to revive this thread…any update from IBM on the matter of Office 2016 updates availability via BigFix? Big thanks to alexk for their contributions so far.
I haven’t heard or seen anything from IBM about patching Office 2016 for Mac applications yet.
Update 15.17.0 was released on Dec 10:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3119518
And @kvellano posted the link to the latest Outlook and Word 15.17.1 updates from Dec 17 that supersedes 15.17.0 for those two applications.
I just updated all of the Office 2016 for Mac content on bigfix.me to deploy the latest 15.17.0 and 15.17.1 updates. Again, all fixlets were tested in my environment, but please test in yours as well and let us know if you notice any issues.
It’s the same bigfix.me links as above, but here they are again, just in case:

Let me poke some patch managers / PMs. I know they’ve been looking to expand Mac patching overall but I’m not sure if Office 2016 is specifically on their roadmap.
Nice work, thanks!!!
Thank you for the interest in Office 2016. Patching support will be available by Q2 this year.
Nice to hear!!
Thanks for posting the response and an ETA.
