Restrict/schedule Site Gather

I read in another post that the BESGather service has been removed in the latest versions of BigFix. I wanted to find out whether there are any settings to prevent Site Gathers so I can enable or disable gathers during certain times of the day.

In my environment we have encountered SAN loading issues where we have heavily provisioned Linux hosts in a virtual environment. A few thousand Linux hosts updating the 250 MB or so in the “Patches for RHEL” sites can hammer the SAN, and none of the bandwidth throttling options apply to Site Updates.

I’m looking for a way to prevent external sites from updating during times when the SAN hit could be bad for us. Any suggestions?

If you only need to do this at specific times, then you could block the bigfix root server from gathering sites from the IBM sync servers at the firewall, then unblock it when you want this to happen.

I’ll have to look into if there are any settings to help control this behavior.
