Before/After Patch Report

http://support.bigfix.com/download/bes/customreports/Before-AfterPatchReport.jpeg

Description:

This report looks up MS patches after a user defined date, and displays the statues of those patches before and after another user defined date.

Archiveable/Mailable:

No

Required BES Sites:

Enterprise Security

I don’t like the name of this one, but I can’t think of anything better. 5 awesome-points to anyone who can think of a good name for this report.

I don’t quite follow what the data in this report is.

Here is what I think this shows:

  1. The first date selection is the date to report all fixes that have been release since that date.

  2. The second date is the date to report if a host required the patch, had the patch installed or the patch was not relevant before and after the date given.

Here is what I don’t understand:

  • Given the before and after date, what is the time period that is searched?

Are my following thoughts correct?

  • The ‘before time’ the time since the patch was released to the ‘Return Results’ date

  • The ‘after time’ the date from the ‘Return results’ date (or patch release date if after the 'Return results date) until today?

Thanks

You have it dead on Paul.

The first date gathers all MS fixlets whose source date is after that date.

In web reports we are able to report on when a fixlet first became relevant, last became relevant, and last became non-relevant.

Using these three inspectors, and the user provided “results before/after” date, we can say:

If a fixlet became relevant before the “before/after” date, and never became nonrelevant, it is “not fixed”

If a fixlet became relevant, then nonrelevant before the “before/after” date, it was “fixed”.

The same logic is used after the “before/after” date.

this doesn’t seem to work for me… It says “Loading…” and never returns any data. The web page returns an error in the attached doc… Tried in web reports 6.0.12.5 as well as 6.0.21.5, same result.

Nice looking report. Should add value to an executive level overview. More importantly display our progress of the BigFix tool since startup.

Any chance the report has been re written to work with 6…25 ?

Seems like it wants to work then a Microsoft Ofiice web components box is displayed.

Thanks,

JFinn

Hey JFinn,

It may be that you don’t have active X enabled, or Microsoft Office Web components properly installed.

I get the ‘Loading…’ screen and thats it, the results of the report do not show. I have installed OWC10 and ensure ActiveX is enabled. Can anyone advise if I need to do anything further?

(imported comment written by SystemAdmin)

Hey Pug,

Mostly likely an error occurred, so the report never moves beyond the “loading” section. Usually your browser will have a little alert in the lower left hand corner of the window that you can click on to get more information on the error. If you could get me the specifics of the error you are getting, i can get to the bottom of the problem you are having.

Zak,

Recommendation: Name your WebReports files…

Format: XML (*.beswrpt)

HTML (*.ojo / *.besrpt)

I get the error also, it states:

LINE: 456

Char: 4

Error: Object does not support this property or method

Code: 0

URL: http:{SERVERNAME}:{PORT}/webreports?page=Report&ReportID=310

I retried it again with just one days worth of 17 August 2008 to 18 August 2008, same error.

BTW:

Version of WebReports: 7.0.7.96 on SERVER - {NAMEOFSERVER}B.Domain:52312

Main Server 7.0.9.110 - {NAMEOFSERVER}A.Domain

On my Development box Running everything at version 7.1.1.315 all on the same box…

I get… Date is not valid. even thou I’m choosing 1 August 2008 to 5 August 2008

I get the error “Date is not valid” too.

It’s probably due to changes between 6.0 and 7.1.

Unfortunately my javascript is not so good.

Has anyone got this report to work with 7.1?

(imported comment written by Lee Wei)

Make sure you are using Internet Explorer. Mozilla Firefox won’t work.

The report uses the Excel which is embedded as an ActiveX control.

I just tried under BES version 7.1.1.315 and it works nicely under IE7.

(imported comment written by p_wudthi)

At the client have to install MS-Excel, it’s works fine.

(imported comment written by jessewk)

You don’t actually need excel, but that will work because it installs Office Web Component.

You can download OWC for free, just do a google search for OWC11.exe and it will be the top link

I haven’t been able to get this report to run on 7.2.4. I run it in IE and it just says “Loading”.

Has anyone gotten this to work on 7.2?

Thanks.

Whatever date I input, it says date not valid. What could be the issue?

Ashwin.D

Whatever date I input, it says date not valid. What could be the issue?

I have the same problem, always shows ‘Date is not valid’.

This would be a great report as this will be the first month we patch production with BigFix.

Hi this is indeed a very nice report.

In our environment there are multiple OS supported. Since this report mainly focuse on microsoft “MS” its relevance contains “number of bes computers” & “count of all computer counts” its giving me non-relevant count for all the OS.

Currently in Not Relevant it is shows 2027 systems as Not relevant where as we are having 986 windows system.

Any help on this will be really helpful to filter only windows count.
