Remove Clients from Database

(imported topic written by jdaly)

I have about 100 computers that havent checked into the BES console in about 60 days. They show up as greyed out in my console however they are affecting my counts of applicable patches. These machines show patches are necessary however since they havent checked in they can not be patched. Some of these machines may no longer exist and some may still exist I cant really know for sure.

If I were to select these machines in the console and choose remove from database what would happen if they computer came back online? Would it automatically re-add itself? These machines all have the client on them it hasnt been removed.

I am just trying to see what would happen if i went an manually removed these computers from the console.

Thanks

When endpoints are deleted they are simply flagged to not display in the console. Once the endpoints submits another report, it will reappear, with all it’s data intact.

This is different from Purging the data. Purging actually destroys the data. This requires a command line utility. By memory, I believe it’s the “ComputerRemover” utility. It will also allow you to “delete” endpoints that have not reported in a number of days.

Check the documentation for ComputerRemover for command line options.

i use the utility to automatically remove non-reporting computers after 90 days, and to Purge deleted computers older than 180 days.
