Rembo Binding Menu

Hello Bigfix,

I’ve recently reinstalled my OS deployment server because we no longer remebered the administrator password. However, a few things have changed. Instead of the old binding menu, (one that was keyboard navigable) I now receive a menu with buttons (which annoyingly have to be clicked with the mouse…)
apparently, the server now directly boots to rembo/TPMfOSD, instead of creating the binding menu in pxelinux

I tried to see if there was an option in the website associated with TPMfODS, but although I can find the Task Template for the Menu Layout; I am unable to change the menu back to the old one.

Because pictures always say more than 1000 words:
this: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/api/content/nl/en-us/SS63NW_9.2.0/com.ibm.tem.life.doc_9.2/Lifecycle_Man/OSD_Users_Guide/Pictures/binding_menu_new.jpg is what I’d like to get back, while this: http://s15.postimg.org/arpqm6yd7/tpmfosd.png is what I have now

I hope it makes sense to someone, cause i’ve been staring myself blind

as I compared the images I saw ’ Switcher’ and ’ Kernel’ (never noticed those before)
google search led me to kernel-free mode, which should lead to the ‘Switcher’ version… however, it appears that this setting can only be changed on known targets.
is it possible to default to kernel-free mode?

Hello,
kernel-free mode is the standard for every OSD server in a BigFix environment.
If you experience a different behaviour, most likely something has gone wrong during the Bare metal server installation.
I suggest that you remove the bare metal server, clean up and reinstall.
If the problem persists, we will have to take a look to logs

Thanks

Thank you for your reply.
If Kernal-Free is the standard, than ‘With kernal’ should be a setting, or is that an incorrect assumption?

It is correct.
The reason why I don’t recommend to go and modify that setting is because the fact that the setting is wrong shows that something went bad during the server installation, and this may not be the only problem.
So I still suggest that you cleanup and reinstall.
Regards

The only issue I’m aware of that went wrong during installation (which was quite frustrating) was the fact that the SQL Connection could not be made. somehow the default connection name (SQL_EXPRESS, or something I don’t quite remember the default) didn’t connect. I’ve created the connection myself and the installation continued as expected (the install task became not-relevant).

It took me a few days to get it back to a working state, that’s why I’m a bit reluctant to try and reinstall it

To change the default from kernel to kernel-free, login to the OSD webui:

Navigate to: OS deployment > Task templates -> Idle layout
Select: Idle state

Select the option for kernel-free.

This will apply to all new targets tath PXE boot on this server.
Please note that, for targets that have already PXE-booted, you still need to go and select kernel-free mode for each individual target

Thanks

Thank you. I wouldn’t have found that…
I’ll heed your warning though, I’ll try to reinstall on a new machine whenever I get the chance. For now, at least we can navigate a lot easier
