Redhat patching auto updated client's timezone

(imported topic written by RadekChan)

When I use IEM to do patching in my redhat servers. It will auto update client’s time zone from GMT (orginal) -> CST.

I tried to use “yum update” in another client instead of IEM fixlet. And did not happen this problem. So I think it is because IEM/fixlet included some conditions to update the timezone file.

Do someone has an idea or has this issue too?

This is the first I’ve heard of this issue. We just perform patches; we don’t do anything with timezone. I just tested it and I didn’t see the problem you described. Out of curiosity, which RHEL site are you using, since we have multiple.

Thanks for the info. We will take a look at it. If it is an urgent problem, I’d suggest you contact the support team to escalate this issue.

Does this happen with every fixlet or any specific one? If so can you share the fixlet ID?

And you mentioned you tried yum update on another client you don’t see the problem. How about trying yum update on the machine where you see the timezone change?

Can you take a look at this KB article:
https://access.redhat.com/site/solutions/26308
? Although, this is related to RHEL5, I suspect it may work in the same way for RHEL 6.

I was trying to run all relevant fixlets with default action.

I am not sure which fixlet caused the issue. But it happened everytimes. (I did 3 times in last few months)

It happened again in my next patch after I changed timezone back in last round.
