Red Hat Linux BigFix Client installer

(imported topic written by altech7891)

The Red Hat Installation Instructions State to:

  1. Download the corresponding BigFix Client RPM file to the Red Hat computer.

  2. Install the RPM by running the command rpm -ivh .

  3. Copy your actionsite masthead to the Linux BigFix Client computer

  4. Start the BigFix Client by running the command: /etc/init.d/besclient start.

When we run the BigFix Client command on step 4, it gives a FAILED error on Linux machine. Are there any steps I need to complete, or configure in the BES Console on the BES Server side which resides in Windows ofcourse?

Are there any other instructions available? This will eventually be scripted to do a silent install from an imaged server.

Where did you put your masthead and what was the name of it?

I’m having a similiar issue after following these instructions for RHEL5.

I placed the actionsite file at … /etc/opt/BESClient.

Everything seems to go fine except that I receive a -bash error “command not found” when I attempt to

start the agent using …/etc/init.d/besclient start.

I can cat the besclient file at that location successfully. Just can’t start it.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Try running the start script as root or using sudo.
