QnA on Mac OSX Help

I am struggling to figure out how to get (specifically where is the QnA binary) QnA running on my Mac. I have looked everywhere on the internet and nothing that I have found provided any fruit. So I am turning to my friends on the forum. Does someone have a handy dandy reference on how to get QnA up and running on a Mac?

QNA locations are documented here: https://www.ibm.com/developerworks/community/wikis/home?lang=en#!/wiki/Tivoli%20Endpoint%20Manager/page/Common%20File%20Locations

Do I need to run as an elevated user to see this directory?

QnA on the Mac (as of 9.2 agents) is in:

/Library/BESAgent/BESAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/QnA

You shouldn’t need sudo access to run it but you may need it for many of the inspectors within QnA. The BESAgent directory you may not be able to see with lower privileges though

OK. I am running a 9.1 agent. I cannot see the QnA in the /opt location nor can I see it under the BESAgent.app directory. Any other thoughts?

It was not included in 9.1 – I would setup a 9.2 client and you can copy the QnA out. As far as I can tell all of the QnA download urls have been removed since it was included in the 9.2 client

It would be really good if that was clearer on the page that talks about the download of the agent.

It does seem like someone removed a lot of that so yes we should fix it.

The latest 9.1 DMG with the accessories and QnA is at http://software.bigfix.com/download/bes/91/BESAgent-9.1.1257.0-BigFix_MacOSX10.6.dmg

I had this same issue recently of trying to find all the locations QnA could be in typically.

So of course, I expressed it in relevance: https://bigfix.me/relevance/details/3006012

pathnames of (files "/Library/BESAgent/BESAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/QnA"; files "/usr/local/bin/QnA"; files "/opt/BESClient/bin/qna")

The funny part is, you can’t really run this without QnA unless you put it in an Analysis.

I went ahead and downloaded the 9.2 agent and copied the QnA file out of there. Thank you for your assistance.

If you are using AutoPkg, you can use this to install the latest version at any time: https://github.com/autopkg/hansen-m-recipes/blob/master/IBM/QnA.install.recipe
