Purpose of MongoDB used with the Plugin Portal

We are looking at installing the Plugin Portal and wonder what the purpose of the MongoDB is, is it for storing the collected data or is it just for storing configuration of the Plugin Portal.

MongoDB is for storing the collected data. The Plugin Portal configuration is stored in PluginStore.db SQLite file.
