"Prompt end user for properties" Not Working

Hi,

We’d like to prompt at the time of imaging on the target machine to enter the hostname. We have the “Prompt end user for properties” setting checked but do not get a prompt when imaging. Is there some other dependency or setting that could be interfering with this? I couldn’t find anything in the OSD documentation.

Thanks,

How is the deployment being started?

If you are using one of the Reimage tasks, the existing system would be reinstalled preserving the existing hostname and IP configuration.

If you are using one of the “Deploy image to Bare Metal Target” tasks, the system will be installed with the configuration that’s defined on the Bare Metal Target proxy computer.

To have the user at the endpoint define settings, you’re correct you need the “Prompt end user for properties” setting checked, and you also need to not have an active OSD reimage task for the system. You need to either have them press F12 to PXE boot during startup, or use the “Force network boot” task, so the computer ends up on the OSD Binding Menu, where they can choose an image and supply the hostname / IP configuration.

Thanks for the reply. It’s bare metal imaging. We can PXE boot and image just fine it’s just that the option to set the hostname never comes up. We’ve been setting the hostname from the console while the machine is parked at the imaging menu but before deploying the image. Not the worst thing in the world; just slightly inconvenient.

The Attribute to show the dialog is stored in the Bare Metal Profile. Please make sure that profile is synchronized. Maybe make a dummy change to the BM profile to push it down to the server again.
Also, a specific version of the Bare Metal server is needed to leverage this feature, I would suggest
no less than Bare Metal Servers to version 7.1.1 Fix pack 20.
This should definitely display the dialog at install time. If not, some digging into configuration files
and log files on the Bare Metal Server may be required.
Hope this helps
