We are trying to pre-cache fixlets for Ubuntu and SuSE to a number of clients. For this purpose, we use the File Pre-Cache Wizard. When selecting the fixlets to pre-cache to the BES Servers and relays, the following message is presented:
“The selected Fixlet messages do not require any file downloads. Please select a Fixlet message which requires a file download or press ‘Cancel’ to exit this Wizard.”
The same seems to happen for just about any Fixlet for Ubuntu 10.04, 12.04 and SuSE. It works fine however on for Fixlets for Windows patches.
Could anyone explain what we are doing wrong here?
It has been a bit, but I believe this this is occurring because there is not really a defined download for these patches. These patches not only download and install the patch, but also any dependencies. This is determined on the system that is being deployed to, so it could change all the time. This is for sure different than Windows (or Mac) where there is a specific file that is used for the patch deployment.
If you want to precache, the best thing to do is to submit the action with a start date that is going to be when you want it. You can do this by setting the “Start client downloads before constraints are satisfied”. I am pretty sure this is what will satisfy your needs.
