We were recently asked if the Power Tracking excludes laptops when they are used outside of the corporate buildings. Seems like a reasonable question, how much power are we really using internally. So I thought I’d ask the community if they have done anything like this and where did they begin?
One note is that the laptops tend to use significantly less power than the desktops and so laptop usage is usually a pretty small fraction of the power spent.
Perhaps one way to get a ballpark estimate is to filter the Power Management dashboard to only see laptops and look do a rough calculation to remove the cost for how long you think they might be out of the office.
Ok, thanks Ben. I was thinking there may be some way to build relevance in so that it it is reporting to the DMZ or VPN relay, stop collecting power info, otherwise collect and report. I’ll give your suggestion a shot.
