Power Management Scheduled Wake on Lan Wizard

(imported topic written by Anthony91)

Hi,

I have an issue with the wizard when i tried to schedule a wake on lan on 1 subnet.

The expiration of the action is set to 1hr

Temporal distribution is set to 5min interval

Wakeup point:

use computers that have not reported is set to within 15 min

The computer in the subnets starts to boot up but only several machines are successfully boot into windows and the rest seems to be stucked in the bios bootup screen.

Is there a specific duration required for it to be fully booted up into windows?

How long it usually takes if the machine was powered off?

Hi Anthony,

If the computer have started at all, it means that they received the WoL packet… I am not sure why they are stuck on the WoL screen, but it sounds like a hardware issue… you might try to reproduce outside of BigFix…

The strange thing is that is multiple machine are having such issues. it does not pertain to a specific machine.

Any suggestion on how should i reproduce the issue outside bigfix?

Thanks:)

Anthony,

That really sounds like an issue with the BIOS… either a BIOS setting that is misconfigured or a bug in the BIOS firmware. Does the BIOS boot screen say anything in particular? Where does it stop at?

You can try to reproduce the issue outside BigFix with a free WoL tool like this one: http://www.manageengine.com/products/free-windows-tools/free-wake-on-lan-tool.html . Remember, you’ll need to run the tool from a client that’s on the same subnet as the computer that you’re trying to wake up.
