Power Management on a Mac with DeepFreeze

(imported topic written by jon_weiss91)

We have labs on campus that have a mixture of Win7 and Macs that all run DeepFreeze. I understand the issues with DeepFreeze and BigFix on a Windows machine as it relates to not being about to write to the registry when the machine is frozen. But, do those issues exist on the Mac since there is no Registry? However, I assume there still needs to be a thawed location to write data relating to BigFix. Is there any documentation/information regarding BigFix on a Mac with DeepFreeze?

Per the DeepFreeze website you can:

  1. Use ThawSpace to designate global or user-specific spaces for retaining data

If the Agent locations within /Library/BESAgent and /Library/Application Support/BigFix and /Library/Preferences/com.bigfix.BESAgent.plist were “thawed” then the agent could install and perform its work. However you would have to “thaw” the system every time you patched it or such to get anything to stick then re “freeze” it after.

Seems possible but doubt its a configuration that has been tested.

We are unable to thaw these locations for non-techincal reasons. Each Mac, however, has a thawd external hard drive attached to it, for anything needing a thawd space. Can the BESagent, BESAgent.plist, and application be modified to install on this thawd hard drive rather than the normal /Library/… locations?
