If IBM will be charging separately now for the Power Management site, and we currently are using it while it was included in systems lifecycle management, do we need to remove the site? If we remove the site because we do not want to pay extra for it, will we lose WoL capability in BES?
Hmm interesting, we never received any email suggesting this. We are in the same boat and I would image as is every other customer with the systems life-cycle management content.
We are locked in a license agreement and would guess it would be “unethical” to just take away content that has already been included in a Domain Content we would have purchased. The only way I could see it working is if they try to take this out of Systems Life Cycle and charge you separately upon your next renewal.
With v8.1 IBM/BigFix can now control the gathering of content for your sites. So if they really wanted to take it away the licensing group could just update your subscription to not gather any updates for power management.
This isn’t something you have to worry about as a customer with an active subscription or maintenance agreement to the BigFix version of SLM. We won’t be taking away any rights for previously purchased SLM bundles that include Power Management.
In the new packaging/bundling world, however, Power Management is sold independently from the new Lifecycle Management suite. But again, that’s not something you have to worry about now. If your agreement is coming up for renewal, though, you should work with your salesperson to ensure the renewal order includes Power Management.
