Plugin Portal requirements for VMWare commands

Is there a minimum BigFix platform version required to issue vm guest commands to the VMware Plugin?

I am currently on BigFix 10 patch 11 and recently noticed this line item in the docs for the Cloud Plugins,

“Starting from Version 10 Patch 12, VMware Hosts will be available for discovery as well. Furthermore, the VMware Plugin will report a greater number of inspectors and properties for both Guests and Hosts while also allowing the user to take advantage of several action commands. The capabilities of the VMware Plugin will match the ones of the old ESXi management extender.”

This seems to suggest that the minimum version is patch 12 but the docs that detail the commands themselves do not mention a minimum required version.

Please advise.

As per below documentation, these items will be available from v11.0.3

VMware Plugin Commands

Understood, but your answer is in regards to BigFix 11. My question was about version 10 and the equivalent page under the BigFix 10 docs do not mention a required version.

V10 - VMware Plugin Commands

Only under the section *
Introduction to Cloud Plugins
is there any mention of a specific version of BigFix 10 patch 12.

Looking for clarification on this as, if I recall correctly, the documentation did not contain this distinction before v10 patch 12 was released.

Thanks!.

Hey Ty! Hope is well! I see what you mean. Overall, it’s a little unclear what commands/inspectors were added with what version if you read through all of the documentation. I’m going to see about getting that fixed.

For now you do need to be at 10.0.12 to start using some of this and on the page you linked above does give version information for certain features. What we are missing, however, is the version information for some of the newer power management commands (and maybe others I missed). Power management commands require 11.0.3. So we need to tighten up the docs a little. Sorry for the confusion. PM if you need more help.

Hey Duncan! Been a long time. Hope you are doing well too!
Thanks for looking into this. I figured as much and just wanted to clarify before I move forward. I’m just going to hold off on this implementation until we move to BigFix 11 next month.
Thanks again!
