We are a relatively new site (first time post) and I was hoping someone here could offer some advice or point me to some documentation on how we should go about patching for the first time. Being new, we have an opportunity to get the patching right straight from the get go so any advice would be greatly appreciated.
The general consensus seems to be that baselines should be kept relatively small so how should I go about patching for the first time if we have a heap of patches to deploy?
Thanks in advanced for your help.

Hi Ben, thanks for the quick reply.
We have some computers requiring some really old patches so I’ve been playing around with how to structure my initial baselines and to keep them relatively small. So far I have the baselines listed below;
2008 patches - not too many in this one and 2009
2009 patches
2010 first half patches - starting to get more and more in this and 2010 second half
2010 second half patches
2011 quarter 1
etc.
I have set it up like this so I can focus on the computers that are way behind in patches. Is this a resonable way to structure my baselines initially or am I missing the concept of baselines?
I also just wanted to check to see if I have created the baselines correctly. We have a bunch on computer groups; “winXP”, “Win7” etc. I have selected the WinXP group, then clicked on the “relevant fixlet messages” tab, i then dropped down the “relevant messages” list in the left hand column, clicked on “by site” then clicked on “patches for windows” then clicked on “by source release date” to get the appropriate patched for the baseline date, i.e. all outstanding patched released in 2008. I then added the listed fixlet messages to the baseline
Is this the how you would go about setting up the baselines or is there another way.
Apologies for the complete beginner questions.

Hi lw,
This sounds like a good scheme to me… You might just sort the Fixlets by “source release date” and then pick the ones you want, but your way of using the tree controls is a good way too…
