It looks like CA is no longer going to support two seperate scanning engines. As of 1/29/07, they are no longer updating the Inocolate Engine. The Fixlet for detecting this doesn’t look like it has changed and it’s reporting all my devices are out of date.
Is BigFix going to update the Fixlet to compensate for this issue?
In addition to that, eTrust is at version 8 for well over a year now and still no support (Systems report no antivirus). This is after I put in a formal request.
What is stranger is that the integrated anti-spyware and antivirus that BigFix sells in all powered by CA.
We will be updating our eTrust support soon to reflect the lack of support for the Innoculate Engine. Patch Tuesday is tomorrow, which might hold things up temporarily, but hopefully it will be updated shortly thereafter.
jspanitz,
It is true that we have an OEM arrangement with Computer Associates in which we directly re-package, sell, and support eTrust AntiVirus and AntiSpyware as part of our “AntiThreat” package. The idea is that you already have BigFix infrastructure in place and why not use it to deploy and manage your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware in a fully supported way? However, this doesn’t mean we should not support the regular version of eTrust 8. I will check on that for you.
Thanks. We have been waiting on this for over a year. We created our own Analysis Fixlet but the standard BES fixlets that detect if antivirus is installed or not always report back those systems as having no antivirus software installed. Also, our analysis fixlet can not obtain the signature version.
We will change the “AV not installed” Fixlet to properly detect the existence of eTrust 8, but we are not planning on supporting the definitions at the moment. As you mentioned before, BigFix is in the process of creating a full “AntiThreat” solution that packages full AntiVirus, AntiSpyware, and Personal firewall into a solution fully managed by BES. To gain this functionality, we have OEMed components from CA. The benefit of this package is that you don’t need to deploy two separate infrastructures to manage all the different components and you get all the scalability, manageability, and ease-of-administration of BES.
