The terms of reference seem a bit vague.

Which application and what do you mean by outdated?

Also depends on what OS you mean as detection on Windows for Win32 or Modern apps are different and different again for Mac or the various variants of Linux.

Win32 apps on Windows, typically the uninstall keys registry is the simplest resource to inspect. The check may vary depending on how the vendor developed the app…some may not have a version stored in the registry.

Q: exists keys whose ((value "DisplayName" of it as string as lowercase contains "7-zip") and (value "DisplayVersion" of it as string as version < "22")) of keys "HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall" of (x32 registries ; x64 registries)
A: True
T: 7.079 ms

I agree the question is vague; do you mean “applications that are not on the latest patch”, or “applications that are end-of-life on vendor support”?

For the first question, I’d look at reporting on relevant Fixlets.

For the second, we have reports on end-of-life software in BigFix Inventory.

Hi All,

I asked the application/software that are not in the latest patch and outdated (end of life) for Windows & Linux machines
Thanks for your replies and suggestions.
